Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of a pair of blue outspread wings, and in front of them descending from an apex above the wings two orange lightning flashes their lower ends passing behind and extending slightly below a silver scroll encircling the wings and flashes in front and behind and bearing the words LONELY RINGER in blue.

Symbolism
Orange and ultramarine blue are the colors for Army Aviation.  The wings suggest the function of flight and the flashes denote the units Radio Research activity.  The encircling ring in base is an allusion to the units motto.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 August 1967.  This unit was redesignated to the 224th Army Security Agency Battalion on 19 May 1971; however, the insignia was not redesignated.
